On the last day of 2024, the NVWA (Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority) issued a safety warning regarding chew bones for dogs. It concerned four types of Barkoo chew bones for dogs that were sold through online shops Zooplus and Bitiba.
What happened?
The NVWA has received reports of dogs falling ill after chewing on a particular Barkoo bone. A number of dogs may have died as a result. It seems that part or a batch of the chew bones in question, which were reportedly produced in China at Jiangsu Huanhuan Pet Foods, were contaminated. The NVWA is currently investigating this. This page from the NVWA shows exactly which chew bones are currently under scrutiny. Antos has never collaborated with this producer.
